Through my 33+ years at the office, I have learned and witnessed that in the First Responders field there is a life-cycle of leadership for any office. If you consider a police department or fire department, the average leadership cycle is around the time period of 10 to 12 years. Our current Sheriff has now served for 12 years.
GOALS:
1) Provide the needed leadership to stabilize the office.
More than 60 employees have left the office since 2017. This includes 40+ deputies and several 9-1-1 Dispatchers. Most recently our 2019 and 2022 Dispatchers of the Year.
2) Hire and retain our good men and women of the office.
In 2023, we lost our K-9 Officer and a Detective both of whom had several years of experience and in their dream positions. Our Future Leaders.
3) Build for the Future.
We must build our next generation of leaders. This not only includes preparing our replacements in our leadership positions, but also providing our future leaders a positive culture in which to work and thrive. This is accomplished by having a positive role model providing Leadership, Teamwork and Collaboration as basic principles.
How do we do this?
The short answer is TOGETHER!
We must build a New Culture for ALL divisions in the Sheriff's Office based on the principles of supporting our employees through Leadership, Respect, Teamwork and Collaboration.
Our employees, our families and our County must have a Sheriff who will support his staff.
